Skywave 1/700
German Z-Class Destroyers

Reviewed by Timothy Dike
This kit is one of Skywave's first destroyers first produced in the 80's. Skywave was a company ahead of it's time, they broke the mold of the big 4 producers of waterline ships. They introduced imporved detailing and added even more accesssories to the growing waterline ship world. This kit while now out of production, lives on as the Tamiya Z-23 kit. Tamiya bought the molds to this kit and now produces it under that name.
The entire kit is molded on two identical  sprues. The hull is a single part with a waterline insert. There are options to build two versions, either a version with four or five main guns. The box art depicts the latter with one twin gun  turret up front. You can also build the ship with the one single gun turret as the Tamiya kit shows. The molding on this kit is quite good but is not quite up to todays standards. The instructions are printed on the back of the box.

Conclusions:

This kit has been on the market for a few years, but is a pretty nice kit with sharp detailing and plenty of potential..You can still find these on some hobby store shelves or lurking around E-bay. Don't pay too much as the Tamiya version is still plentiful.
