KitBase 2
Scale Model Database

Suisoft Limited, a software development company based in England, has a database customized for the scale modeler. We previously reviewed the original version of this program here. Version 2 is out and retains all of the original feature, but adds a lot more flexibility and is very customizable. Since many of us are kit collectors as well as modelers, it is a good idea to document our "kit stash". KitBase allows you to do that and then organize, sort and search it in a multitude of ways.

I used to keep my inventory list in an Excel spreadsheet. It was easily imported and I was able to add new columns and modify how the database displayed. Adding new items is very easy once you get the hang of it. If you have aftermarket sets, you can link them to the kits they go with. You can track kits you have started and link pictures with them too. Box art, kit parts, and even reference photos are just a click away. This could prove very helpful for insurance purposes as well in the event of a loss.

Another useful feature is the wanted tab which will be handy when your shopping the tables at the model shows. Having your "wish list" handy might keep you from adding a lot of duplicate kits to the "stash". Or print it out and give a copy to your family for your very own Santa's list.

You can track your sales and trades too. Adding E-bay listings will be a breeze as the database stores all the typical fields that the auction site uses.

The example below is how I customized my copy.

The backup and sync makes it easy to ensure your files are not lost. I back my database up to my google drive. KitBase makes this easy.
CONCLUSIONS
I had my kits listed in a spreadsheet. This is so much more fun and helpful. If you have ever used any MS Office apps, you should be able to use this one. Warning it is addicting and almost a hobby in itself. Still not convinced, download the free trial and give it a try.
