Academy 1/700
RMS Titanic LED

The Titanic is perhaps the most well known ship of all time. Proudly proclaimed as unsinkable, the ship sank due to damage from a collision with an iceberg just 5 days into her maiden voyage in 1912.

This 1/700 kit from Academy is molded in their MCP (Multi Color Part) system. The colored sprues are to allow the kit to be built without painting. An LED lighting kit allows for the ship to be built with interior lighting.

UPPER AND LOWER HULL
The hull for Titanic comes in two parts, split along the waterline; an upper hull molded in black plastic, and a lower hull molded in anti-fouling red. The two hull halves are also packaged with a main deck/superstructure, which is molded in white. The three parts come pre-assembled for shipping. The hull includes prominent plating detail and the fit between the parts is good. Click to

SUPERSTRUCTURE SPRUE A
The superstructure snaps into the upper hull with the help of side clips and locating pins.  Windows are molded open and there are stairways that disappear below deck.
SPRUE B
The decks are molded in tan plastic with molded on deck planking.
SPRUE C
.This sprue includes of days with Titanic embossed on the front.  Provisions are made for an on-off switch with the wires being routed through the stand.  The out-board prop shafts are also molded on the sprue, although sprue F would've been a better color match for the lower hull.
SPRUE D
The bridge and superstructure parts are sharply molded on this white colored sprue.
SPRUE E
The funnels are molded in orange plastic.  Slide molding is used to ensure the funnel are seamless and hollow with exterior piping molded on.
SPRUE F
The masts are molded on the sprue as well as a multitude of benches.
PROPELLERS SPRUE
Gold plated propellers are provided on the sprue.
LED LIGHTING KIT
The highlight of the kit is a LED lighting upgrade.  It includes everything from the wiring, Battery box, on-off switch, and LED's.
DECALS
Decals include flags and the ships name.
INSTRUCTIONS
The instructions are well drawn in twelve pages showing the kit assembly and how to install the LED lighting kit.
CONCLUSION
This is a nice kit of the Titanic which should prove to be enjoyable build right out of the box.  The included lighting kit adds another dimension that will make it interesting display piece.

This is kit #14220 R.M.S. TITANIC WITH LED SET with a retail Price of $42.00
