The USS Enterprise was commissioned 25 November 1961, she was the first nuclear powered aircraft carrier built. She was best identified with her square island that supports a phased array radar's. She has participated in virtually every conflict since entering service. In the early eighties she emerged from Puget Sound Naval Shipyard after receiving a reconstructed island and other improvements. She was again updated in the nineties and will be good for service through 2015.

In 1964 The USS Enterprise in company with two other Nuclear powered ships the USS Long Beach CGN-6 and USS Bainbridge DLGN-25 set off to circle the globe as Operation Sea Orbit. Argos a relative newcomer to 1/1250 scale has chosen this time period to create a replica of this famous ship. The ship is cast metal and comes pre painted as shown with beautiful deck markings. The elevator warning stripes are very sharp and look better than some models I've seen in the larger scales. Attention to detail is evident on this ship as you inspect the bridge and deck details. A look at the hanger bay openings and boat handling cranes shows that this in not your typical cast metal ship.

The ship comes securely packed in a sturdy cardboard box. It is mounted on double sided tape and secured with foam inserts to minimize shipping damage. The Island is separately packed in foam and is the only piece that must be attached. Simply adjust the mast and aerials and this jewel is ready to display.
Argos produces an extensive line of 1/1250 scale ships with a strong focus on modern US Navy ships. Check out their website for additional details. The other ships of Operation Orbit are also available as they were in 1964 as are a line of 60's style aircraft for the air wing. This kit is listed for $120.00 (US) in the latest 1/1250 Update from Pacific Front Hobbies and will really enhance your 1/1250 ship collection.
