| Squadron Hobbies has sent us some
new 3D printed parts in their Gold Medal Models range. This set is
1/350
USN 40mm Twin Bofors, Mk1 Mod 0, set GM3D350030.
According to Navweaps.com, the 40mm was "Probably the best automatic cannon anti-aircraft weapon of World War II. This weapon was used on almost every major USA and UK warship of World War II and was a very potent AA gun. The first shipboard quad installation was on the gunnery-training ship (ex-battleship) USS Wyoming (AG-17) on 22 June 1942, and the first twin installation was on the destroyer USS Coghlan (DD-606) on 1 July 1942." For more on the 40mm Bofors, go to Navweaps.com. |

| The packaging is a small plastic box,
surrounding a printed cardboard insert that describes the contents.
Inside is one print raft with ten (10) 40mm twin mounts.
These twin 40mm mounts have good details, with seats, sights, recoils springs and railings. When I removed one side of the print raft to help facilitate photography, I found the resin break very easily and perhaps even be a little brittle. However, when I (carefully) removed one of the mounts from the print raft as a test, using my Squadron Sprue Cutters, I found that I was able to remove it with no issue. |

| CONCLUSIONS | |||||||||||
| Squadron Hobbies has jumped into the crowded 3D
print arena with a variety of new offerings, including these USN twin 40mm
Bofors from their Gold Medal Models range. There are well done -
they are nicely printed and have good details. With 10 mounts in
the set, these are economical as well, coming in at around $1.89 per weapon.
That's about half the price, per weapon, as other manufacturers.
This is Gold Medal Models 1/350 USN 40mm Twin Bofors, Mk1 Mod 0, set GM3D350030. The set retails for $18.99 USD, and is available directly from Squadron Hobbies - who I'd like to thank for this review sample. Recommended! |
