1/700 Scale USS New Jersey Fitting set
by Gold Medal models
Recently Pit-road/Skywave released a new 1/700 scale modernized Iowa Class battleship representing the USS Iowa and the USS New Jersey in their 1980's fit or even a 1968 version. As nice as the Pit-road kits are they can always be improved by a good photo etch set, especially one that is custom tailored to that kit.

The instructions are well done and lists the Pit-road part numbers that are replaced by parts from this set. There are a number of detail shots of each part so there is little left to chance. Also included are plan and elevations of the 1968 and 1982  New Jersey to illustrate the differences. One of the neatest things about this set is the UNREP parts, these really add to the diorama possibilities for the modeler.
Included in the set:
  • Several different styles of railings including several custom formed ones for the various parts such as bow rails
  • Inclined stairs and ladders
  • anchors and chain
  • Stern crane (1968 version)
  • Bridge window frames
  • MK 13 radar and supports
  • MK 37 5" gun director radar supports
  • SPS-6 radar (1968)
  • SPS-10 radar
  • SPS-49 radar
  • ULQ-6 ECM antenna supports
  • AS/SRA-57 and 58 antenna
  • mainmast antenna
  • foremast platform
  • aft funnel yardarm rails and antenna supports
  • Helicopter deck safety nets (1968 and 1982 styles)
  • SH-60 Rotors, (folded and ready for flight)
  • UNREP hose and pulley system with hose rack and crane rails
  • helicopter refueling station (1982+)
  • boat details and hose reel
This set could also be used to detail NNT's Iowa even further, but if you pick up the new Pit-road kit, this set is just what you need. If you are going to build any of the  modernized Iowa Class BB's, I highly recommend this set.
