The new Dragon 1/350 USS Buchanan is out and while the basic kit is extremely detailed, there is still room for improvement. The kit includes some basic photo etch, but to keep costs down railings were left out. This set includes all the railings you will need to finish the kit and they are custom cut to fit the ship. If that isn't enough, then consider the addition of a preformed Mk-12 radar screen. Yes, if you hate bending these as much as I do, you will really appreciate this little gem. The photo etch fet includes four braces that fit nicely on the back of the screen to give it the ultimate 3D appearance. A short length of rod ties it to gether and gives you a realistic pivot point to mount the radar on the already well detailed director arms.
The railings include a realistic drooped chain effect with canvas coverings for the top of the bridge and netting along the deck. These railings are relief etched so the netting and canvas really stand out. The brass is a little heavier than most aftermarket sets so it should stand up to the average modelers touch. The only thing missing here is cutouts for the various chocks. These you will have to cut out yourself if you wish to show them.
The instruction sheet is a printed in color showing the fret and screen with locations marked. Each section of railings is marked and noted on an assembled ship. The finished Mk-12 radar screen is shown on top a Mk-37 director. With all the parts noted, all you have to do is cut the railings from the fret and apply them as shown using your favorite glue. I prefer CA (superglue) to attach my railings.
A great upgrade for a great kit. This set is a step in the right direction for the Cyber-Hobby division of Dragon Models. This set is available from either DragonUSA for US customers or for international customers for only $10.99 US. For a limited time you can get this set for only $2.00 US if you order it with the Buchanan. That is an awesome deal so hurry and get your order in as this offer won't last much longer.
