Tom’s Modelworks has released a 3D printed upgrade set for any of the 1/700 models of the ill-fated liner RMS Titanic.  Some of you might have heard of this ship.  I think they even made a movie, or two, about her.

1/700 TITANIC BOATS & DAVIT SET
This 3D printed set comes with one print raft with 24 davits, and 22 smaller print rafts, each holding a single boat.

Included with the set are the following boats:

  • 4 25-foot cutters - 2 deployed and 2 stowed
  • 4 27-foot collapsible boats
  • 14 30-foot life boats - 7 for each side
The davits are very thin, delicate and fragile looking - and very well done.  The most difficult thing about using these davits - other than getting them off the print rafts - will be filling the seams in the deck of your Titanic - most of the kits portray their davits as one large piece that fits into a slot in the deck.

The boats look great.  You can pick out the planking details on the sides of the boats, along with the rope detail.  Terrific detail for 1/700 scale!   The 30' boats are printed with the chocks only on the inboard side of the boat, as it was on the real thing.  Be careful when putting the boats onto your model so that you are placing them in the correct location.

INSTRUCTIONS
Instructions are twelve pages long!  There are drawings and photographs throughout, to help you with assembly and placement of the parts.  They instructions are excellent, and look easy to follow.
CONCLUSIONS
This 3D printed set of boats & davits for the 1/700 Titanic is very well done.  The printed davits are particularly well done, and the boats also have nice details on them - I really like the planking and rope detail.  This will really dress up those 1/700 kits out there.  I only wish this set had been available several years ago, when I built a 1/700 Academy Titanic.   Tom's Modelworks also offers this set in 1/400, 1/350 and 1/200.  In the larger sets, you have to choose if you want either stowed of deployed davits.  Unlike this set, which gives you both stowed and deployed davits, those larger sets only give one or the other.

This is Tom's Modelworks set 700-16 Titanic boats and davits.  The set lists for $30.00 USD, and is available directly from Tom's website.  Thanks to Tom's Modelworks for this review sample, which is highly recommended!
