The Mk 63 Gun Director was developed in World War Two. It was designed to work with the 40 mm Bofors gun mounts and helped contribute to their effectiveness.

This kit by J&D Productions consists of eight castings that assemble into a single director. The parts are all cast in metal and have fine detailing. The parts are designed much like injection molded parts so they fit together reasonable well. The handles are pretty fine so be careful with them. There was barely a trace of flash on my sample so cleanup is not a problem. A little superglue and paint is all that's needed to finish this kit.

Conclusions:

Anyone who has ever scratchbuilt a 1/96 scale ship knows that the amount of time and effort needed to scratchbuilt these weapons is just not practical if one wants to complete the ship in their lifetime. It is nice to have such a nicely cast one to use instead.
