Hawk Graphics 1/350
USS Wasp LHD-1 Class

Reviewed by Sean Hert
HISTORY

Hawk Graphics has released a decal set for the Wasp Class LHD kits from Gallery/MRC/Revell Germany. This set has 4 different sheets of water slide decals, printed by the always excellent Cartograf in Italy, with 2 of the sheets of hull numbers doubled, making for a total of 6 sheets.

This set is intended to supplement, not replace the kit decals; there are NO flightdeck lines or aircraft markings. It does include markings to convert your LHD into any of the other members of the class:

  • Essex LHD-2
  • Kearsarge LHD-3
  • Boxer LHD-4
  • Bataan LHD-5
  • Bonhomme Richard LHD-6
  • Iwo Jima LHD-7
  • Makin Island LHD-8

This also set has the unique identifying decals for the island of each member of the class, small multicolored location markings for the flight deck and details for the fire trucks and deck tractors- as well as hi- and lo-viz hull numbers.

Sheet Three x2

INSTRUCTIONS

The two-sided page of full-color instructions is more of a loose photo reference guideline than a place-by-place set of instructions. The layout for Makin Island is used as a reference.

CONCLUSIONS

This set helps bridge the gap over some missing or inadequate decals included in the kit. And with the impending release of a 1/350 USS Iwo Jima LHD-7 kit, have decals for the other members of the class only adds to the possibilities.

This is set #D3524 with a MSRP of $34.00 CDN$, or about the same USD.

This is only one of the many decal sheets produced by Hawk Graphics/The Resin Shipyard. See the whole line on their website. Thanks to Hawk Graphics for this review sample.
