Alliance ModelWorks has been adding to their line of accessories. This new one will appeal to the Railroad lover and diorama fan you all of us. Included in this set is an EMD E5 A and B unit to haul your train to the dock yard. The E5 was used by the Chicago Burlington and Quincy Railroad and was very similar to the other E series engines such as the E3, E4 and E6. These streamlined locomotives were common in the transition era when Steam engines were being phased out and Diesel was coming into wide spread use. A cabless B unit was designed to connect to the lead unit working together to provide 2,000 hp each. This particular model was built from 1940 to 41 and remained in service for decades. There is even a preserved E5 A unit at the Illinois Railway Museum that has been used in the recent movie,  Flags of Our Fathers.

Alliance ModelWorks provides one A and one B unit in this set.

CAR BODY
The car body is resin with nice sloping front end and cast in windows and panels. There are side recesses for the included photo etched sides. A small casting gate on the end is the only real cleanup needed on these parts.

PHOTO ETCH
A nice relief photo etched sheet provides the side panels with doors and openings nicely represented. Even the corrugated side panels are done. The trucks are fold up assemblies that attach to the bottom of the resin body. Also provided are rear doors and what appears to be couplers.
INSTRUCTIONS
The instructions are a single page showing the basic construction. They give the basic assembly but don't show the couplers or rear doors.
CONCLUSIONS
This is really cool set that will allow you to combine your love of ships and trains! Now if I could just find a way to motorize them!

This is set number # NW70024 EMD E5 Diesel Locomotive. Harry@Battlefleet Models has them on sale for $11 as of March 2013. Check out the entire line and many others on the website.
