The most recent effort to arrive from Kraken Hobbies is an 1/700 waterline hull for the US Navy's Benham-class destroyers.  According to the Kraken Hobbies website, the hull was "designed from US Navy blue prints and extensive photo references. This will easily cover any Benham class member from 1942 through 1945, earlier could be done by adding portholes. Designed to work with already available Benham-class upgrade/conversions (sold separately) for the old Midship Models kits."

The packaging is a simple plastic bag.  Inside is one Benham-class hull, which scales out pretty much perfectly in overall length and beam.  The hull is well printed, though there are some visible striations on the deck, and some wavy print lines on the side of the hull.  The deck is cambered and the prow of the hull, unlike the plastic version from Midship Models, is sharp and well defined.  The hull also includes the deck at break in the hull, which the Midship kits omitted.  The sides of the hull feature some hull plating, and the deck has winches, hatches, vents and bollards printed on it.

CONCLUSIONS
While it's not perfect - there are those striations on the deck and the print lines on the hull - there is a lot to like about this hull.   With it, and with and one of the Benham-class conversions, you can now completely dispose of your old Midship models Benham-class kits, as the Kraken combo has much better details.

This is Kraken Hobbies 1/700 Benham Class Waterline Hull.  It retails for $14.99 USD, and is available directly from Kraken Hobbies, who I'd like to thank for this review sample.  Recommended!
