Black Cat Models Review - 1/350 US Navy YD-84 Floating Derrick | |||||||||||
The kit is all 3D printed and consists of two ziplock bags
and blister packs of parts that is synonymous with Back Cat.
First bag is the barge itself that measures 97.5 x 30.5
mm. A mostly clean print with a few resin attachment points though it does have a bend and
does not sit perfectly flat. The deck has regular plating and two open hatches printed, as well as
the base for the derrick. Next bag contains a deckhouse for the machinery of the derrick. The details are superb, with only slight 3D support nubs to sand smooth. The structure is printed hollow, and you you can see thru the open molded windows! The ring on the bottom allows this derrick to be easily modeled in any orientation desired.

CONCLUSIONS | |||||||||||
This is a great addition to the various
yard craft that Black Cat has started releasing. It looks impressive, with the delicate trusses that make up the
derrick. I do wish the instructions included some of the rigging required for the boom and frame.
This kit is available directly from Black Cat Models or one of the retailers that sell their products. |
