Black Cat Models continues to release new accessories in 1/700, while sending some of them along for us to review.  One of those sets is AC700021b, US Navy 26ft Motor Whaleboat Mk1 (x3)

According to Boats of the United States Navy, a Navy boat is defined as an uncommissioned waterborne unit of the Fleet, not designated as a service craft, and capable of limited independent operation. It may be assigned to and carried on a ship as a ship's boat or assigned to a shore station or a fleet operating unit. The 26' Motor Whaleboat's purpose was to transport personnel and for use as a lifeboat.  The boats had a crew of 2 and a capacity for 22, including the crew.   They were, as the name suggests, 26' feet long, with a beam of 7' 4".  They had a top speed of 7 knots, and with a full complement of fuel (28 gallons), had a range of 110 nautical miles, at full power with a full load.

THE PARTS
The packaging is the usual plastic clamshell container, where a single print raft - with three 26ft whaleboats - is attached to the bottom of the packaging with double sided tape.

As mentioned, there are three boats included.  The detail and fineness of these boats is really terrific.  There is a well defined helmsman rail, a rudder, and a prop.  There is also planking detail inside the boat, along with a well defined combing around the edges of the hull, and a strake along each side of the hull.

Close ups of some of the parts details.

INSTRUCTIONS
There are no instructions.  Removal from the print raft should be self-evident, however.
CONCLUSIONS
These 26ft motor whaleboats are ubiquitous on WW2 USN ships, especially on destroyers. Finely printed with nice details, these will be a big improvement over the kit parts found in the ships of your scale fleet.

This is Black Cat Models set AC700021b, US Navy 26ft Motor Whaleboat Mk1 (x3).  It retails for about $5.25 USD, and is available directly from Black Cat Models - who I'd like to thank for this review sample - or from some of our other fine sponsors.
