The Lost Ships of
Guadalcanal
by Robert D. Ballard
Those of you that know me, know that I am fascinated by the battles that took place in and around Guadalcanal during 1942 and early 43. This book by Bob Ballard and Rick Archbold is one of my favorites. Ballard, better known for his documenting of the wreck of the Titanic, turned his sites on Iron Bottom Sound and this book documents the wrecks he found.

The book not only shows the ships as they lie now, but has one on the most balanced historical accounts of the battles. Both sides are well presented with the authors drawing on some of the most recent findings.

The book is extremely well illustrated as far as charts, maps, and wreck photo's and renderings go. But some of the historical photo's of the ships are of prewar vintage and it would have been nice to see pictures that matched the way they fought during this period.

The book was out of print last time I checked but can still be found on book shelves of many stores. If you can find a copy, buy it, you won't be disapointed.  This book is 227 pages with more photo's than I care to count. It is ISBN 0-446-51636-8 Published by Warner Madison Press with a list price of $39.95
