Scale Modeling Quarterly from HobbyScale Press is back with their second issue. This one also features a lot of Naval content and plenty of modeling that has ties with ship modeling. Now I know most of you don't limit yourself to ship modeling, so this new magazine should be right up your ally. In this issue is a nice feature on a 1/48 Merlin that should prove valuable to those of your detailing your 1/700 versions. A rather extensive feature on a Japanese Sub Tender diorama covers everything from making water to deck painting.

Airbrush maintenance is the subject of another feature. Modeling a prewar carrier deck in 1/72 also has a naval flavor. IPMS National coverage and features on how to tell a story with your models are things all modelers can enjoy.
CONCLUSIONS
The photos in this issue are crisp and clear printed on glossy paper with the feel of a professional magazine that's been around for a while. I'm looking forward to more from Scale Modeling Quarterly. This second issue is very well done and a big step up from the preview issue #1. SMQ is offering a promotional subscription offer of $19.99 ($5.00 off) at smqmag.com. So there's no reason not to give this new hobby magazine a try.

Contrary to what some have predicted, the print magazine is not dead. It is still nice to have something tactile to hold in your hands not dependent on battery life or your internet connection. I hope modelers will support this new magazine Subscriptions are $24.99 for an annual print subscription of four issues. But for the month of June, new subscribers will receive five issues for the price of four. Check the Hobby Scale Press website for more details.
