David Doyle Books has released a new title.  This one covers the US Coast Guard Cutter Taney, (WHEC/WPG-37), a Treasury-class cutter, which served during World War II and Vietnam, and is now a museum ship.   This book is 144 pages long, and includes a history of the Taney, from keel laying through her current service as a museum ship.  There are 300 photos, including some in original color.
This book is laid out in the standard Legends of Warfare format, with an introduction and subsequent chapters:

 - Chapter  1 - Construction
- Chapter  2 - Pre-World War II Service
- Chapter  3 - Taney in World War II
- Chapter 4 - Post-World War II Service
- Chapter 5 - Museum Ship

The book is broken into five chapters, with the longest chapters being dedicated to Taney's World War II service and her service as a memorial.  Other chapters include details on her pre-War and post-War service.  While not in Pearl Harbor on December 7, 1941, Taney was tied up to Pier 6 in Honolulu Harbor that morning, and fired repeatedly on enemy aircraft.  According to Wikipedia, Taney mostly served in the Pacific, and was uniquely armed with four enclosed 5"/38 gun mounts in centerline position.

The book is full of great photographs, which detail the many changes and refits in Taney underwent in her career. You'll be able to track those changes through the photographs in this book, while the text gives a very detailed history of Taney's varied and eventful career.

Conclusions:

This is another well done release from David Doyle, which will please both ship modelers and naval enthusiasts.  It has good info and tons of fine pictures.  As with earlier volumes, I think both naval history buffs and modelers will really like this book on the Taney, the only surviving ship that was present in Hawaii on December 7, 1941.  Highly recommended.

The official title of this book is US Coast Guard Cutter 37 (formerly known as USCGC Taney) - Legends of Warfare, by David Doyle.   Published by Schiffer Publishing, ISBN 978-0-7643-6966-7.  The book retails for $24.99, and is available to order directly from David's website.   Thanks to David Doyle Books for the review sample.
